Reeling Titans fall to Chariho

The Toll Gate Titans were blanked 41-0 by the Chariho Chargers on Friday night at Pilgrim High School during a Division III-A football matchup.

All of the Chargers touchdowns came on the ground with senior wide receivers Collin Fitts and Caleb Maggs, plus junior quarterback Konnor Perrin, recording two touchdowns apiece.

Maggs added an interception while playing defense and sophomore kicker Mason Cucca went 5-of-6 on extra points.

Toll Gate never found the scoreboard, but running back Jayden Pina had a couple of long runs.

“This is his first year playing football,” Titans head coach Jim Miceli said. “So, he’s a baseball player that came out for football. He tried out at quarterback to start the year, and then we figured out he was probably better suited at other positions. Especially without us having a summer program really, and having to get the kids acclimated. So, we made him a running back and an outside linebacker and he’s played a couple good games for us. This isn’t the first game he’s played well. He’s a junior, he has one more year. I wish he was younger.”

Senior Jay Vann started at quarterback and played all but one series where he was replaced by sophomore Kason Wirtz.

“Obviously, we’re not winning any championships this year and I’m trying to look at as many young kids as we can, so I put him in for a series just to give him some work,” Miceli said.

Toll Gate fell to 0-3 in the league with the loss and plays next on Saturday at noon at Classical (1-2).
