Former Ward 6 Councilman Matthew Reilly, who resigned last month after his arrest for drug possession, was arrested again by Cranston Police on charges of child molestation on Thursday, June 8.

Officers and Detectives arrested Reilly, 41, for First Degree Child Molestation Sexual Assault, Second Degree Child Molestation Sexual Assault, and Enticement of a Person under 16. In a press release by the Cranston Police Department, it was revealed that the arrest stems from an investigation that began on May 7. Police reported that the legal guardian of a twelve-year-old girl, who is unrelated to Reilly, filed a complaint with the department.

Cranston Police partnered with police from North Kingstown where they picked up and arrested Reilly. Police then transported Reilly to Cranston before he was arraigned before Magistrate Joseph Ippolito and ordered to be held without bail pending a competency hearing.

The investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released by CPD.
