Remembering Michaela and passing along a message

Michaela Lynch, a former cosmetology student at the Warwick Area Career and Technical Center, who lost her life as a passenger in a car driven by a drunk driver is remembered by her instructor Jill Shurtleff as bringing joy to the classroom and for her passion for the trade she was learning. Michael’s mother Tami, is also looking for her daughter to serve as a reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving and being careful in selecting rides.  On Friday, Tami urged recent graduates of the cosmetology program to share Michaela’s story and emphasized that life "is not a dress rehearsal.” She also presented scholarships to the graduates to pay to take tests to gain their licenses as cosmetologists.  The scholarships, as well as providing funds for the program to purchase equipment not otherwise covered in the budget, was initiated about two years ago. It is funded through a golf tournament and a bowl-a-thon. A total of ten scholarships were awarded this year.  Pictured Friday at the center are Tami, left, and her aunt Pam Peloso, who also works on the Michaela Lynch foundation and recipients Charity McIntosh, Lexy Rayhill, Mia Razzino, Christina Sebastiao and Samantha Lavallee.
