Reminiscent of those good ‘olde’ days at Rocky Point

The Rocky Point Midway made a return Tuesday afternoon.

More that 100 tents lined the park walkway as vendors sold a variety of goods from clothing to collectibles and non-profits and municipal agencies handed out information, gifts and answered questions. And there were more than a dozen food trucks and fireworks to cap off the event.

But there was so much more to National Night Out that just gave the feeling of those summer days at the amusement park. There was music, loud speaker announcements of demonstrations and performances, lots of families, lots of kids, screams of delight, lots of elected officials and candidates and lots of traffic. There was also that bay breeze that always refreshes Rocky Point.

Traditionally, Warwick National Night Out, the community event hosted by law enforcement agencies and supported by non-profits, is held in Oakland Beach. The event has become so popular that Mayor Frank Picozzi looked for a larger venue. He didn’t have far to go even though Ward 5 Councilman Ed Ladouceur had reservations over traffic and the impact on neighbors.

And there was space, lots of space although many people opted to park on Palmer Avenue and walk into the park.  Warwick Police held their popular K-9 demonstration and kids got to climb on fire trucks as well as watch the jaws-of-life in action.  (Warwick Beacon photos)
