Rhode Island College has been picked to finish first among a nineteam Little East Conference field for the 2021-22 season after a vote by the league’s coaches.

Head Coach Adam Spring’s team is coming off the program’s sixth straight and 12th overall Little East Regular Season Championship. RIC also won its fourth consecutive and 10th overall Little East Tournament Championship.

“It’s an honor to be named the preseason favorite as voted on by the coaches,” Spring said. “That said, the LEC will be filled with tough teams and incredible players, and it should be a great experience for all of our players this fall as we try to get back to the finals.”

RIC posted a 10-1 overall record and a 7-0 (first place) mark in the Little East during the 2020-21 campaign. The Anchorwomen qualified for the NCAA Div. III Women’s Tennis Championship for the fourth straight season. RIC defeated Farmingdale State, 5-0, in the opening round of the NCAAs on May 14, before falling to host Emory, 5-0, in the second round on May 15.

Three key student-athletes return to the court for RIC this spring, led by junior Jenna Lisi (Cranston). Lisi has been named the Little East Player of the Year in each of her two seasons, as well as garnering First Team All-LEC awards in both singles and doubles.

Senior Victoria Vittori (New Bedford, Mass.) paired with Lisi and captured First Team All-LEC honors in doubles in ’20-21. Sophomore Lauren Macera (Cranston) returns to the court after posting a 9-1 singles and an undefeated 7-0 mark in doubles during her rookie season, which saw her received the LEC Rookie of the Year award.
