Rhode Island College junior sprinter Steven Doss (West Warwick, R.I.), junior thrower Michelson Salomon (Providence, R.I.) and freshman jumper Jaden Saunders (Smithfield, R.I.) were each recognized for their respective performances at Boston University’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 11.

It was an individual event with no team scoring.  The event consisted of mostly NCAA Division I institutions.

Doss was named the Little East Men’s Track Athlete and Rookie Track Athlete of the Week. It is the fourth time this season that Doss has received the Athlete of the Week and the second time he was tabbed the league’s top newcomer. Doss finished third in the 60m (7.00) and 18th in the 400m (48.10). Doss broke the program record in the 400m and currently ranks No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in New England in that event. His time in the 60m ranks No. 1 in the Little East.

Salomon was named the Little East Men’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week. It is the second time this season that he has received this award. Salomon finished third in the weight throw (18.55m). His throw moved him to No. 10 in the nation and No. 2 in New England in that event.

Saunders was named the Little East Men’s Rookie Field Athlete of the Week. He placed 10th in the high jump (1.94m) and 14th in the triple jump (12.98m). Saunders’ effort in the high jump moves him up to No. 9 in New England and No. 2 in the Little East.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2023 Little East Championship, hosted by Plymouth State on Feb. 18 (11:30 a.m.).
