The Cranston West football team’s hot start continued as it edged Portsmouth 27-26 in a DI thriller last Friday night.
The Falcons trailed 20-13 heading into the fourth quarter, but quarterback Kelan Cornell would connect on a touchdown pass to Charlie Cornell, then Kelan would rush for another score to give West the lead. Despite a late scoring drive by Portsmouth, the Falcons would hang on down the stretch to earn the win and improve to 2-0.
Kelan Cornell tossed a first-half touchdown to Ethan Parent and David Boscia also rushed for a touchdown to get West on the board early.
The Falcons will hit the road to take on St. Ray’s this Friday for another heavyweight battle.
BOYS SOCCER
West 2, Classical 0
The Cranston West boys soccer team climbed above .500 by beating Classical 2-0 last Saturday.
The Falcons got goals from Chris Melise and Nick Ayala while Liam Johnson recorded an assist. Keeper Jack Payne had an impressive outing in net, stopping all eight shots faced to earn the shutout victory.
The Falcons faced Central Falls on Tuesday, but the results were not available at press time.
East 9, TSA 2
The Bolts remained in the playoff hunt with a big win over Times2 last weekend.
Fabricio Mariscal and Gabriel Leon paced the offense with two goals each, while Jordan Alvarez, Aaron Morales, Saeed Sorio, Elijah Meinel and Jeff Derosier all found the back of the net as well. Mariscal also added two assists.
Sorio and Meinel split time in net and combined for four saves while Sorio got the win.
