Roundup: Pilgrim volleyball takes down rival Toll Gate

The Pilgrim boys volleyball team topped crosstown rival Toll Gate 3-0 last week as each team winds down their regular seasons.

Pilgrim’s Dylan Alvarez finished the day with six kills to pace the offense while Logan McDermott added 11 assists. Harrison Hun had another strong outing for the Titans, finishing with 10 assists and six digs on defense. Kaleb Peralta led the Toll Gate offense with five kills.

GIRLS LACROSSE

East Providence 16, Pilgrim 0

The Pats were shut out by the Townies on Monday afternoon. Zoe Anderson made 11 saves in net for Pilgrim

BASEBALL

Cumberland 1, Pilgrim 0

Pilgrim dropped a tough decision to Cumberland on Tuesday. 

Starting pitcher Nolan Canestrari was sharp on the mound despite the loss, pitching 6 2/3 innings and allowing just one earned run on four hits while striking out 13 batters. 

Central 10, Toll Gate 0

The Titans were shut out by Central on Tuesday.

Jonah LaFauci accounted for two of Toll Gate’s three hits. Brady Fales recorded a pair of strikeouts on the mound. 

SOFTBALL

North Kingstown 6, Toll Gate 4

The Skippers used a late rally to edge the Titans on Tuesday.

Reagan Motta led Toll Gate by going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Flora Meunier also drove in a run.

Delaney Wilson, Addie Eddy and Motta split pitching duties. Wilson and Eddy each struck out two batters. 

OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD

The Rhode Island Interscholastic League Division Championships took place at Cranston West last week and plenty of locals made noise.

BOYS

Hendricken’s David Hayes won the 1,500 run while teammate Colby Flynn won the 3,000 run. Pilgrim’s Brandon Wolfenden won the discus throw, shot put and the hammer. Hendricken’s Carson Dean won the pole vault. Pilgrim’s Hunter Schobel won the triple jump. Jakob Reyes won the high jump for Hendricken.

Pilgrim’s relay team of Patrick Rowe, Miles Zuniga, Cornelius Zmed and Jacoby Schmidt took second in the 3,200 relay. Hendricken’s Tristan Jordan placed second in the 110 meter hurdles. Flynn placed second in the 1,500 run. Schobel finished second in the long jump.

Toll Gate’s Ryan Brady finished second in the 800 run. Hendricken’s Dimitri Johnson took second in the hammer, and teammate Kayson Kong took second in the shot put. Toll Gate’s Sean Anderson finished third in the hammer. 

GIRLS

Pilgrim’s Keaney Bayha won the 1,500 run and 800 run. Toll Gate’s Vanessa Jones won the discus and hammer throw.

Pilgrim’s Lia Wasilewski took second in the javelin. Jones finished second in the shot put. Toll Gate’s Anna O’Donnell finished fourth in the 3,000 run. Pilgrim’s Brenna Hall took fourth in the discus while Jones took fourth in the javelin for the Titans.
