Three Cranston restaurants are taking part in Bakes for Breast Cancer. They have each designated an item on their menu where 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the organization, benefiting cancer research.
In Cranston, the promotion is already going on until Sunday, Oct. 25, at Seven Stars Bakery, Legal Sea Foods and Chapel Grille.
Proceeds raised in 2020 will support the research of Dr. Rachel Freedman, a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her clinical trials primarily focus on treatment for older breast cancer patients, an area of research that has been vastly under subsidized.
“We are on a mission to end breast cancer for good, one sweet treat at a time,” said Bakes for Breast Cancer founder Carol Sneider. “We continue to grow each year, raise more money than the year before, and I’m completely in awe of the people who support the venues and our organization in a number of other ways. We’re pleased to have been able to evolve this year’s initiative into something that we think will work for all during this current time. Although we may have tough hurdles ahead due to the impact of COVID-19, we are dedicated to meeting our fundraising goals.”
This year, the Rhode Island Bakes for Breast Cancer is dedicated to honoree Donna Conforti, a breast cancer survivor of 20 years. Donna lived most of her life in Rhode Island and has been an active volunteer and fundraiser for breast cancer. Her commitment to finding a cure has been passed down to her sons, Paul and Raymond, who have been long-time participants of Bakes for Breast Cancer.
Also participating, outside of Cranston, are the Coast Guard Restaurant, Red Stripe Restaurant and Mill’s Tavern and Good Game Grille.
