Big day for BBBS

LEADING THE WAY: Jack Blatchford, director of finance and operations for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Rhode Island, volunteered to help organize the Big Yard Sale to benefit future mentoring programs.

GOOD FINDS: Sandra Makielski, a North Kingstown middle school teacher, found many items to use in the classroom during the Big Yard Sale held over the weekend.

SIGN OF THE TIMES: Community safety was key at the Big Yard Sale to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island, as customers and staff wore masks and practiced social distancing.

Big day for BBBSBig Brothers Big Sisters of Rhode Island will hold a Big Yard Sale at 1540 Pontiac Ave. in Cranston on July 11 and July 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The first installment of the three-day sale was held over the weekend. At the upcoming events, household items, books, furniture and more will be available for purchase, and all proceeds will be used to continue to fund the organization’s mentoring programs at a time when the youth in the community needs them the most. Items will be priced to move and deeply discounted. Masks must be worn at all times and social distancing is required. For safety reasons, staff at the yard sale will be unable to make change for cash sales. Customers may donate their change to Big Brothers Big Sisters or use the various electronic payment methods available. (Herald photos by Steve Popiel)
