On Saturday morning, dozens of people joined in with the Pawtuxet River Authority & Watershed Council (PRAWC) to clean up the area around Tongue Pond, located next to Lowe’s on Garfield Avenue. Also assisting were members of the Cranston Conservation Commission led by Carl Santucci.

Among the items the participants found were tires, building materials, food containers, bottles, cups and syringes. A dumpster was filled with the trash they picked up.

PRAWC is hosting a number of spring cleanup events in the months ahead, including two gatherings in Cranston.

The first will be held March 13-14 at the Howard Conservation Area at 117 Kenny Drive, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days.

Following that, a cleanup will be held at the Randall Pond Conservation Area, located at 30 Libera St., on March 20-21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on both days.

Volunteers are needed for the cleanups in Cranston and in other communities, including Coventry and Warwick.

For more information or to volunteer, call Jim Sullivan at 575-0848. A complete cleanup schedule can be found on the PRAWC Facebook page.
