The Irish Ceilidhe Club of Rhode Island continued a tradition with its annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 17. Following a Mass dedicated to the members the club has lost, a ceremony was held to raise the Irish and American flags. The national anthems of both countries were played. Eileen Brothers, a longtime member of the club, offered greetings on behalf of Mayor Allan Fung. Brothers’ uncle, James Holahan, who was visiting from Ireland, was also on hand to enjoy the festivities. After, members of the Goulding School of Irish Dance in Cranston performed and traditional Irish music was played as guests enjoyed refreshments. The club was founded in 1956 by Irish immigrants and Irish Americans to provide a place for social activities and common heritage.
