Demolition recently got underway at the Oaklawn Avenue site that formerly housed Mardi Gras nightclub to make the way for a new liquor store, Christy’s Liquors, and a bank branch. In addition to the former nightclub building, the demolition work is clearing three homes on Bateman Avenue and buildings that formerly housed Macera’s Restaurant and other businesses. A zoning change for the property was approved earlier this year. Signs at the site say the liquor store is scheduled to open in 2021. (Herald photos)
