Milk donation supports hunger relief

DAIRY DONATION: Jenn Danouras, marketing manager from New England Dairy, provides a half-gallon milk donation to Martinha Javid of the MAE Foundation at the Stop & Shop on Warwick Avenue in Cranston on Monday.

UNITED FOR THE CAUSE: Ayana Melvan represented the United Way during the World Milk Day giveaway at the Stop & Shop on Warwick Avenue in Cranston.

MILK DAY: Collecting their donation of milk during World Milk Day held at the Stop & Shop on Warwick Avenue were Matt Schoeninger and his wife, Laura Liddle, co-owners of Ocean States Kidz Club in Cranston.

Stop & Shop, New England Dairy, United Way of Rhode Island and Rhode Island hunger relief agencies joined together on World Milk Day, June 1, for the donation of 8,252 half gallons of milk from Stop & Shop’s 275 Warwick Ave. location in Cranston. Agencies picked up the bulk milk during a large-scale giveaway at the store. More than 50 agencies and groups received donations, including CCAP, the MAE Foundation, YMCA of Greater Providence, school departments and more. (Herald photos by Steve Popiel)
