A local animal rescue group is offering a $500 reward as it searches for a missing cat that has overcome uncommon adversity in recent weeks.

The cat, Ash, went missing from the area of Plainfield Street in Johnston in early February, according to Melissa Davis of Cranston-based Tigers Den Rescue. He has since been spotted in the area of Zanfagna Street in Johnston, but while an active search has been ongoing, he has not yet been found.

Davis said Ash was found by HeavenLees, a rescue group run by her sister, roughly a month and a half ago after receiving a report of an injured animal. Ash was found to have a shattered jaw, likely the result of being struck by a car.

“Just by luck,” Davis said, a veterinarian was able to help. But doing so required wiring his jaw shut – and the procedure cost several thousand dollars, a significant amount for a small operation like HeavenLees.

Ash was staying with a foster family when he accidentally got out, Davis said. Since then, the three-member team at Tigers Den has taken an active role in trying to find him. Because of his injured and wired jaw – which limits his ability to eat solid food – there is added concern for his well being.

If Ash is spotted or found, Tigers Dan can be reached at 346-8852.
