The Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation, in its 10th year, awarded $6,000 in college scholarships to four graduating seniors from Cranston West and Cranston East.

The annual scholarship awards are based on academic merit, behavior, attendance and overall achievement while in school, taking into consideration extracurricular activities and community service.

The scholarships, $1,500 each, were awarded to East students David Scarborough and Kaitlyn Shmitz. David will be attending University of New Hampshire and Kaitlyn will attend URI in the fall. At West, Catherine Consiglio and Anastasia Coclin each received the scholarship. They will attend Duke University and Boston College, respectively, in the fall.

“My brother, Jimmy, was a proud graduate of the CHSW class of ’82. He would be so proud that we are able to assist the seniors in furthering their dreams,” said Lisa Pagano, president of the foundation. “His life was cut short in 2008, but while he was alive, he always emphasized academic achievement, sports participation, community involvement and kindness with his own two children, and was a role model for all children in the community. It is the purpose of the foundation and these scholarships to honor Jim’s legacy, propel those values important to him among our community youth, and promote courage, confidence and good moral character in life’s pursuits.”
