The fun never retires

Judy McCusker got the surprise of a lifetime last Tuesday evening when she pulled up to Immaculate Conception Catholic Regional School in Cranston and saw a throne adorned with a tapestry and an arch balloons waiting for her.

Her family and closest friends were on hand to celebrate McCusker’s retirement after 30 years of teaching fourth grade in local Catholic schools. She started at St. James in West Warwick before moving to Cranston Johnston Catholic Regional and then Immaculate Conception.

The parade, which received a police escort, started at Brayton Park and weaved its way through Cranston to greet McCusker at the school. Loved ones stopped to drop off gifts as songs played in the background. Some hung out of doors and sunroofs, while others were snapping pictures of the festivities.

“Judy has been a remarkable teacher,” friend and organizer Patrice Beverly said. “This year my own grandson Andrew was in her class … that was truly a privilege for him and me!”
