Prior to, and during, Gov. Gina Raimondo’s daily COVID-19 briefing on Monday, roughly 50 people took part in a demonstration outside the State House to call for a swifter reopening of the state’s economy. The “Re-Open Rhode Island Motorcycle Rally” involved vehicles circling the State House and a number of demonstrators gathered outside the building, while radio host John DiPetro broadcast live. Many participants carried signs supportive of President Donald Trump. “Life the restrictions. Open up the economy. Stand up for your rights,” reads a description of the event posted on DiPetro’s website.
