Hundreds of people lined the streets in Knightsville, with a majority of them wearing face masks, to watch the 115th St. Mary’s Feast procession on Sunday.

Typically, the feast draws tens of thousands of people to the neighborhood over four days in July. It is a celebration with roots that trace back hundreds of years to the village of Itri, Italy, the ancestral home of countless immigrants who settled in Cranston.

This year, however, the festivities were significantly scaled back due to the pandemic. Food was available to go from the St. Mary’s Feast Society building, while a small procession was held after the Sunday Mass.

Despite soaring temperatures and social distancing restrictions, spectators turned out to see the statue of Mary travel down Cranston Street. The Mass, meanwhile, was streamed live via Facebook.
