Johnston Public Schools participated in a district wide “Green Out” in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. On May 2, each public school in the district came together to show support by wearing green.
Johnston Public Schools are committed to supporting students through a comprehensive approach that includes school wellness programs and social emotional learning initiatives, according to Casey Miserandino, school counselor at Thornton.
The school department also works to ensure access to dedicated support staff such as school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists.
“A top priority for the district is to promote the health and well-being of both students and families through ongoing efforts in wellness and mental health support,” she wrote in an email to the SunRise.
