The summer in Conimicut came to a close with two major events in the last two weekends – the closing of the last farmers market and last Saturday’s art festival at the village’s Donovan Park, and the closure of a section of Beach Avenue.
Conimicut Village Association President Leslie Derrig said the market, in its second year, was a success in introducing people to the village, and that the partnership with the William Shields American Legion Post 43, which hosted the market, was mutually beneficial. Post members served up breakfast and coffee from their kitchen. CVA vice president Joanne Miller was the driving force behind the art festival, which brought more than 30 vendors along with musicians and performers into the village center. The CVA is now planning a Christmas Extravaganza and tree lighting on Beach Avenue on Friday, Nov. 28, from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
