I love spring.  The trees are budding.  Tulips, daffodils, and forsythia are among the many beautiful flowers that are popping up.  Unfortunately, with all of that, comes pollen.

Sneezing and wheezing your way through spring!

I love spring.  The trees are budding.  Tulips, daffodils, and forsythia are among the many beautiful flowers that are popping up.  Unfortunately, with all of that, comes pollen.

Pollen is the tiny grains that plants release to fertilize other plants.  This can cause headaches, fatigue, sneezing, itchy eyes, coughing and a runny nose.  I don’t really suffer from allergies however this time of year, I find myself having some of these symptoms. There are lots of over-the-counter remedies available.

The effects of the medicines make me feel worse.  This is when I reach into my tool bag of Aromatherapy and treat myself naturally. Lavender is a great natural antihistamine. It is calming and reduces inflammation. Peppermint is also helpful.  Its fresh minty smell opens clogged sinuses and gives you energy. Eucalyptus is a natural anti-inflammatory and helps with congestion. There are lots of essential oils that combined can work wonders.

Here are a few of my recipes.  Eucalyptus and peppermint work wonders for helping you breathe.  Sandalwood, Frankincense and Ravensara combined are a natural analgesic that can help with head pain, create a sense of well-being and healing. Peppermint, lavender, and lemon essential oils are and effective soothing relief for allergy symptoms.  Keep in mind that citrus oils can make your skin sensitive to the sun Watch your sun exposure when using lemon and use a sun screen.  There are different ways to incorporate Aromatherapy into your life to help with spring allergies.  You can diffuse it into the air with a diffusor. If you don’t have one, you can boil water in a container and breath in deeply.  Putting a towel over your head helps concentrate the vapors and expediates relief.  You can also apply oils to your skin.  Never apply an essential oil directly to your skin. Always use a carrier to dilute the oils such as grapeseed or almond oil.   You can also combine the oils in a spray bottle and spray it into the air.  I do all three for maximum affect!
