Spring is in the air….

A walk to the local marina this warm February morning showed signs that spring is close by. The sun was out, and the birds were chirping. Peepers start vocalizing so early in the spring that they might be more accurately called late-winter peepers.

Hearing them lets us know that the ground is thawing, and the springs are starting to flow.

One local spring that I walk past most mornings will soon have a few
beautiful crocuses. Crocuses are one of the first flowers to bloom each spring. Their cheery blossoms often open when there’s still snow on the ground. The flower colors are a preview to Easter: purple, yellow, lavender and white. Seeing them always brings a smile to my face. I know for sure, it’s just a matter of time until warmer weather.

There were a few boats uncovered and an occasional eager boater, preparing their boat for a fun spring and summer on the water.

Soon, the humming of sanders and music from radios will mix with seagulls squawking.

Life on the water will be underway. These signs give me hope that winter will soon be over.

I’ve never been a fan of cold weather. I don’t participate in any winter sports. I decided years ago that my job as a nail technician was more important that learning to ski and risk a broken wrist or arm.

In early January, I took my grandchildren ice skating is Westerly. After about ten minutes of trying not to fall, I decided that it wasn’t a good idea. In retrospect, it seems kind of silly. Sharp blades, slippery
ice and children falling all over the place do not make a relaxing afternoon!

The kids loved it and I enjoyed watching from the sidelines. So, as I
countdown the days until spring, this I know... it will come!
