The Cranston West boys volleyball team is off to a hot start as it currently sits with a 5-0 record, most recently beating Lincoln 3-0 (25-17/ 25-15/ 25-22).

The Falcons are coming off of a down 2022 spring season and already appear to be poised to make a run in Division II. West has won every set that it has played through its first five games and has seen multiple returners hit the ground running.

Christian Mak led the way with 10 kills last week against the Lions while Dimitri LeBlanc added nine. Lucian Spremullo racked up seven aces while Thomas Pilderian recorded five. Aidan Hay led the way defensively, finishing with five blocks while Logan Reed finished with 13 digs.

“They are loving it, they are totally enjoying the season and the seniors are playing really well. I’m happy with what they’re doing. They’ve been playing so well together, so cohesive,” said West coach Jennifer Ferencko.

Hay leads the team with 14 blocks while Spremullo leads with 20 aces. Reed leads West with 38 digs while Mak leads with 51 kills.

Hay has been key as West’s setter, and leads the team with 116 assists.

“Aidan is really good at spreading the ball around, he’s good at going to the hot person, making sure everyone gets to hit. Everyone has been playing very consistently in their hitting. They’re just doing a great job all around,” said Ferencko.

West played Toll Gate on Tuesday, but the results were not available at press time. The Falcons will next take on Barrington on Thursday and Lincoln next Monday.

West’s last state championship was in the 2019 season. The team has rebuilt its roster over the past two seasons, and Ferencko believes that the Falcons have all the pieces in place to go on another big run.

“It’s going to be about practice, a lot of practice and working together. They have an end goal in mind and that’s to win a championship,” Ferencko said. “They’re going to keep pushing and striving until they get it.”
