Supporting substantive proposals to improve care

To the Editor:

As a home care provider that serves patients in Cranston, I join my colleagues in supporting the re-election of Nicholas Mattiello to the Rhode Island House of Representatives.

Speaker Mattiello has been a strong ally for home care at the State House fighting for competitive wages for frontline home care workers and reducing their unnecessary statutory and regulatory burdens that do not impact quality of care. Each legislative session, Speaker Mattiello meets with provider administrators and frontline workers to learn about progress made in optimizing care delivery and works diligently to identify and resolve barriers to accessing care for patients and their families. He frequently speaks with home care nurses, social workers, therapists and nurse assistants to hear their concerns and takes appropriate action. Prior to the COVID-19 public health emergency, Speaker Mattiello visited with constituents in his district that utilize home care to witness firsthand how our healthcare heroes keep patients safe at home and in the community.

During the next legislative session, there will be many bills filed and several hearings that intend to evaluate and reform long-term care. From care delivery reforms in nursing homes to capacity expansion efforts in home care, we need deliberative leaders that will filter the rhetoric from special interests and evaluate the substantive proposals to improve care. My colleagues and I believe that Speaker Mattiello is best to lead these efforts.

Please vote to re-elect Nicholas Mattiello as your state representative and allow him to continue his advocacy for advancing quality health care at home in District 15 and throughout Rhode Island.

Chairman, Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care Political Action Committee
