Thomas J. Ward, 77, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Hope Health Hospice Center in Providence.

Born in Aughnasheelin, Ballinamore, County Leitrim, Ireland, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth (Harvey) Ward.

Tom spent his formative years in Ireland before emigrating to the United States in 1963. He later became a citizen in 1969. Tom spent most of his professional career working for Donnelly’s Men’s Wear clothing company before he fulfilled his dream of owning and operating an Irish pub, Ward’s Public House in Warwick. Tom shared his love of discussion and lively debate with many friends and patrons of Ward’s. He also shared a passion for traditional Irish music, providing a welcoming place for local talented musicians with his weekly traditional Irish music sessions. Tom could be quite the jokes person with his dry Irish sense of humor and will be sadly missed for his friendship, generosity and love. Tom very much enjoyed nature and had a particular fondness for the White Mountains in New Hampshire and the hills of Leitrim, Ireland.

Mr. Ward leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Kristen B. Ward and Christopher Brodeur of Portsmouth, NH; a daughter, Catherine Ward and her partner Christopher Penta of Cranston; a son, Kevin Ward of Cranston and a granddaughter, Gabrielle E. Brodeur of Boston, MA. Besides his children, he leaves his siblings, Desmond Ward of Dublin, Ireland; Kevin Ward of County Galway, Evelyn Ward Kilbane of County Meath and Dermott Ward of County Leitrim, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also a father to the late Thomas J. Ward of Cranston.

A Memorial Mass will held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church in Cranston, One St. Paul Place, Cranston.
