Track teams start strong

FROM STAFF REPORTS The Cranston boys and girls indoor track and field teams kicked their seasons off this past weekend at the Providence Career & Technical Institute, and a handful of locals enjoyed strong outings. Here are some of the results: BOYS Michael Conti took home a first-place finish for West in the 55 meter dash as well as the long jump, while Steve Faccenda finished second in the shot put. West’s Alex DelNigro finished second in the long jump as well.

Peter Morales placed third in the 600 meter run. East’s Nicholas Cobb placed fourth in the 1,500 meter run, while teammate Jethro Vargas took fourth in the long jump.

West’s Kris Degaitas finished fifth in the 55 hurdles, as well as sixth in the long jump. West’s Dimitri Lablanc took sixth in the 55 hurdles while teammate Makai Teixeira placed sixth in the 300 meter run. Cobb took sixth in the 1,000 meter run as well. Ryan Fonseca finished sixth in the weight throw for East.

Shawn Robbins placed seventh for West in the 1,500 run while teammate Drew Evans took seventh. Leblanc later took seventh in the 300 dash. Nate Quero took seventh in the 1,000 run for West. Angelo Capaldi took eighth in the shot put for the Falcons, while teammate Evan Sao finished eighth in the weight throw.

West’s Matt Baccari took home ninth in the 3,000 meter run, while East’s Ruben Germosen placed ninth in the 300 dash. George Grammas placed ninth in the weight throw for the Falcons. Alex Phok finished 10th in the 3,000 run for the Falcons GIRLS Cranston West’s relay team of Madison Alves, Gianna King, Quiana Pezza and Ailani Sutherland took first in the 800 as well as the 1,600. East’s relay team of Madeline Baxter, Zoe Catrambone, Jenna Lees and Stella Loezos finished second in the 1,600.

West’s Lindsey Hobin finished second in the 55 meter hurdles, while Alves took second in the 55 dash and long jump. Juliana Bucci finished second in the shot put, while East’s Madison Gunderway took third as well as third in the weight throw.

East’s Catrambone placed third in the 600 meter run as well as third in the high jump.

Sutherland finished fourth in the 55 dash, while Loezos finished fourth in the 1,500 run for East. Lindsey Hobin placed fourth in the long jump. Gabriella Difilippo took fifth for West in the 600 run, while Bucci finished sixth in the weight throw.

West’s Isabella Conti took seventh in the 55 dash, while Rachel Hobin placed seventh in the 600 run. Baxter finished seventh in the high jump, and West’s Mary Dasilva finished seventh in the weight throw.

West’s Aaliyah Gervais took ninth in the high jump. West’s Maya Fraenza took eighth in the 55 meter hurdles, while West’s Ashlee Tennett placed eighth in the 300 dash. West’s Hope Kelley finished eighth in the 1,000 meter run.

Hailey King later finished ninth in the 300 dash for the Falcons, while Pezza took 10th in the long jump.
