With so many people staying at home these days – and especially nights – television has become a primary source of entertainment.

The good news is that Netflix, HBO, Disney and the multitude of emerging subscription channels has increased and improved, offering a multitude of choices.

The bad news is that network TV is entering the season of repeats and ridiculous summer replacements.

Wednesday was always “Chicago” nights for me, but now it is “Chicago Repeats” night.

All three networks have filled their primetime hours with dumb “celebrity” game nights, with such lemons as “Holey Moley,” “To Tell the Truth,” “Celebrity Millionaire,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Press Your Luck” … the list goes on and on.

Thursday night is the only night with promise. The season opener of “America’s Got Talent” was a winner, followed by “World of Dance,” which is a must-see for dance lovers.

NETFLIX

Because I used to be out most nights reviewing movies, plays and concerts, I never subscribed to Netflix. I always felt left out in conversations about “Ozark” and “Breaking Bad” until I signed up and watched them both in April.

Now I am hooked on “The Last Kingdom” and have just started season two. I’ll stick with the basic choice until I catch up on recommendations.

AXS/TMC

Two of my favorite offbeat channels are AXS, which shows old concert videos, and TMC, which specializes in classic movies with no commercials. I sat mesmerized watching an Eagles concert on the former and the Buster Keaton classic “The General” on the latter. The channels are part of my Verizon package, which is filled with stuff I would never think of watching.

And then there is old reliable, PBS, where I could sit for hours watching the nature films, especially the new “Spy in the Wild,” where they have cameras hidden in real-life animal models.

COMPUTER SITES

All you have to do is type in your special interests, hobbies, or subjects, and there is something there for you on your computer.

While the young folks spend hours on YouTube, we soon tire of the “home videos.”
