To the Editor,
Currently when we are in public venues outdoors or indoors are we ever truly safe? Schools, churches, medical facilities, malls, and entertainment venues all have had active shooter incidents recently.
All businesses are required by government regulations to train management and staff in all safety protocols. The designated safety plan to use in their preparations and training is OSHA’s Emergency Action Plan.
These requirements cover all aspects of safety. Naming just a few are: means of reporting the incident, training of staff for safe exiting of all present, locate and prepare a harden area for sheltering in place
These devastating incidents appear to be increasing therefore so is our decreasing willingness to attend any public venue for fear of becoming a victim. This may have an impact on our all-ready declining economy.
Mental health issues and gun control are strong needs that beg for solutions now.
