Unwanted 'thanks' if it comes from Trump

To the Editor:

November 11th is Veterans Day, a time to honor the sacrifices of those men and women who gave so much for the freedoms we enjoy today. Thanks to all of you!

I am a proud veteran of the USAF during the Vietnam era and my father was a combat wounded vet of WW2.

While I am grateful for those who thank me for my service, although I never faced any danger, I do not wish to hear any such words of thanks from those that support Donald Trump.

Do not thank me and wave the flag while supporting a man who insulted Senator John McCain and denigrated his sacrifices. I do not wish to hear “Thanks for your service” from someone who supports a man who claims vets are “losers” or “suckers.” I don’t want to hear “Thanks for your service” from a supporter of a man who says nothing as Putin places bounties on our servicemen and women.

Don’t thank me if you admire a man who has done little if anything to defend us from an invisible invader that has taken half as many lives as we lost in WW2 in one quarter the time.

Worst of all there is a full-scale effort to suppress the vote or not fully count the vote in an effort to win by destroying the democratic process and people’s faith in the outcome.

I don’t want to hear any words of thanks from Donald Trump supporters as they undermine America.

But to the others, and to the vets that served, I say, “Thanks for your service. God Bless you all!”
