A 65-year-old woman who was walking her dog on Farmington Avenue was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle on the evening of July 9, according to Cranston Police.
The driver, identified only as a 22-year-old woman, also struck the home at 281 Farmington Ave. after losing control of her vehicle while traveling west on the road at approximately 7:18 p.m. that night, according to an email statement from Chief of Police Col. Michael Winquist.
The driver – who was also hospitalized – is not currently facing criminal charges and “will be cited with the appropriate traffic citations at a later date,” the chief’s email reads.
Neither the driver nor the pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries in the incident, according to Winquist. Each was believed to have possible broken bones.
An investigation found that the driver failed to stop at a stop sign on Farmington Avenue and was “traveling well in excess of the posted speed limit prior to the crash,” the chief’s email states. The driver did not show any signs of impairment during an examination by a drug recognition expert at Rhode Island Hospital.
