Virtual ArtsFest kicks off

A virtual showcase of Cranston student artwork is now available.

The Virtual ArtsFest 2021 launched Monday and runs through March 31. The roughly 19-minute video, hosted on YouTube, can be found at cranstonlibrary.org/artsfest. It features the work of student artists across the city’s public schools.

“I admire all of the students and their teachers who have preserved through a very difficult year to still manage to create some incredible works of art,” Superintendent Jeannine Nota-Masse says in an introductory message on the video.

“Many thanks to all of the Cranston Public School art educators, the Cranston Public Library staff, and all of the student artists and designers that have made this show a reality,” adds Jill Cyr, the district’s art program supervisor.

“ArtsFest is LIVE! Congrats to the talented student artists who were chosen to be part of this exhibition,” the library wrote on social media. “Thank you to all the Fine Arts dept faculty who have worked so hard through this challenging year! We're honored to host ArtsFest!”

ArtsFest is typically held as an in-person exhibition at the Central Library on Sockanosset Cross Road. Last year, however, the event moved to a virtual format following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
