Warwick Neck in the fall

I love walking around my neighborhood. It’s fun to watch the plants starting to bloom in the spring and see vegetable gardens popping up all over. When summer starts, the smell of flowers is amazing!

Everywhere you look there are pops of color, and planters overflowing with beautiful combinations. I watch with delight as the perennials take their turn blossoming at different times. The neighborhood changes as the season goes on, from patriotic flags flying proudly to the hint of autumn and carefully placed pumpkins on the porches.

I love the colors of autumn, from the vibrant yellows and oranges to deep reds and burgundy. It a delight for the eyes. The smell of fall is different, too! The air is cooler and crisper. The smell of burning leaves permeates the air. I’m excited about the thought of loading up my wood stove and having my first fire!

Fall is a great season to enjoy outside. People go all out with decorating for Halloween. On my recent morning walk I passed two houses all decked out on Warwick Neck Avenue. One is called The Hall Asylum and is open on the weekends. The other one, just a little farther down the road, is very cool with giant spiders in the windows and lots of other fun and scary things to look at.

It’s not too hot during the day and the nights are cool. I’m not a big fan of winter, so for me, fall is the last hoorah. Don’t get me wrong, I love the holiday season with all the decorations and fa-la-laing. I would be perfectly OK with spring starting on Jan. 2! My apologies all your skiers, winter is just not for me.

So, I’m going to pack in lots of fun in the next month. Festivals, apple picking, maybe even a scary house or two!
