To the Editor:
As a Cranston resident, I am proud of our city. But I am not a fan of the status quo. The goal of city leaders is never to accept that what is good cannot get better. The goal of a leader is constant improvement, always working to make life better for every citizen.
The Republican candidate for mayor, by his very words, does not instill in me the confidence that his goal is to improve our city, and every Cranston resident knows that there are areas that can and need to be improved.
Mr. Hopkins has shown no vision for the city’s future. With Fung as his hero, growth and innovation are not in the cards. His point of view is that all is good. Fung has done a wonderful job, and there is no need for anything better.
I don’t accept that. We don’t need a Fung clone and puppet. We need a leader who will tackle the election year budget that Fung proposed and even the Council President and three Democrats opposed and other challenges of today and work to improve tomorrow for all Cranston residents. Cranston needs to look to the future, not the past. The only person ready to do that is Maria Bucci.
Michael J. Sepe
Chairman, Cranston Democratic City Committee
