Welcomed back to school with gunfire

To the Editor,

I am a Cranston resident and have lived in my home for 47 years, which is located two blocks from the Cranston Police Gun Range.

For the entire month of September, the children attending Cranston West will be “Welcomed back to school” hearing war-like gunfire in their classrooms, school grounds and athletic fields.

This is the CPD gun range schedule that was posted for the month of September 2024:

Police Shooting Range Schedule

Please be aware that this schedule is subject to change when special training is required.

September 2024

The Cranston Police range may be in intermittent use will be in regular use.

Rife training for new officers will occur during the first week of September.

Pistol Qualifications will occur, Monday through Friday, during the three remaining weeks of September.

Take a ride over to Cranston West and you can hear the War-like Gunfire firsthand and experience what the children are exposed to in a supposedly “Healthy Learning Environment.”

I know that the News Media will continue to hold the politicians of Cranston accountable on their solutions concerning the Gun Range issue. “To Walk the Walk not just Talk the Talk.”

Regards,

Patricia Schoeninger,

I live only slightly further away than you do and lived here longer. Really "War-Like Gunfire" I could just as easily say "Mob-Like Shouting" at sports events. As far as holding any one accountable They've probably passed away by now. We can find out who they were by reading the plaques at the schools placed there when the schools were built near the range. We could also stop telling kids to be afraid of noise. We could also have firearms safety training in the schools. Before you say "that's crazy", we have *** ed, driver's ed, drug ed all to warn kids of dangers and/or proper use.
