West Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) members represented the city of Cranston and Rhode Island DECA at the recent DECA International Career Development Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia. At the conference which was held from April 22 to 27, West students competed with over 17,000 DECA members from all 50 states, four U.S. Territories, as well as Canada, Mexico, Germany, Korea, in selected business project and role play events.

Alexandra Cowart, Victoria Minicucci, Jesse Mirabal, Cara Steere, Christina Micheletti, Milana Kadak and Amelia Louro demonstrated their college and career-ready knowledge and skills by participating in DECA’s industry-validated Competitive Events Program, aligned with Career Clusters, National Curriculum Standards and 21st Century Skills in the areas of marketing, finance, hospitality, management and entrepreneurship.

These West DECA students qualified to attend based on their superior performance at the RI State DECA Association competition conducted this past February. More than 1,000 business professionals serve as expert judges to evaluate DECA members’ mastery of these concepts.

Receiving “Awards of Excellence” which placed them in the top 10 percent of all competitors were  Alexandra Cowart and Victoria Minicucci for their Independent Business Plan and Jesse Mirabal for his Integrated Marketing Campaign.

The DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) is the culmination of the DECA year.

“I am incredibly proud of my student’s hard work and dedication in presenting and competing with their projects at the DECA International Conference. I am also very appreciative of the school administration and school committee’s support of the West DECA program which provides real world experience to my students,” said Chapter Advisor Richard Abruzzini.
