The Cranston West girls outdoor track and field team had a monster day last Saturday when it won the Class A Championship at Coventry High School. The Falcons boasted a team score of 119.50, edging second-place La Salle who racked up a score of 107.
Reece Vitale had a big outing for West, winning the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, as well as the triple jump. West’s relay team of Quiana Pezza, Amelya D’Errico, Stalia Biosse and Ailani Sutherland took first in the 400 relay. Maia Riccio won the javelin throw for the Falcons as well.
West’s team of Sutherland, Biosse, Vitale and Maya Cicchitelli placed second in the 1,600 relay. Sutherland finished second in the 200 dash while Pezza took second in the long jump.
D’Errico finished second in the 400 dash, while teammate Bridget O’Donoghue finished third in the high jump. Pezza later placed third in the triple jump while D’Errico took fourth in the 200 dash and Pezza finished fifth in the 200 dash.
Pilgrim’s Keaney Bayha won the 1,500 run then placed second in the 3,000 run. Toll Gate’s Vanessa Jones won the discus throw as well.
Toll Gate’s Alison Pankowicz finished second in the 1,500 run while Bayha finished third in the 800 run and Jones took home fourth in the javelin.
Pankowicz placed fifth in the 800 run for Toll Gate, while Jones finished fifth in the hammer throw.
On the boys’ side, Bishop Hendricken rolled to the Class A title with a score of 239, besting the Rams by more than 100 points. West finished in fifth place overall.
Alonso Parker-Sharpe led West by winning the 100 dash and the 200 dash.
Evan Lei, Elijah Curran, Aidan Gosselin and Matthew Petit finished third in the 3,200 relay for West. West’s relay team of Ryan D’Errico, Parker-Sharpe, Aiden Robinson and Ryan Stoloff finished fourth in the 400.
West’s team of Parker-Sharpe, Stoloff, Robinson and Gabriel Fajardo took fourth in the 1,600 relay. Kelan Cornell wrapped up fourth place in the javelin for the Falcons.
Hendricken’s Jacob Coates won the 400 dash and teammate Jack Moretta won the 3,000 run. Hendricken’s Elijah Guertin also won the 110 hurdles. Toll Gate’s relay team of Rhontahn Vega, Mason Tanner, Trevor DiPanni and Ryan Brady won the 1,600.
Hendricken earned another relay win in the 3,200 as Colby Flynn, BJ Kerachsky, Jake Greene and Brayden Seraichyk took first. Carson Dean won the pole vault for the Hawks, while Pilgrim’s Hunter Schobel won the long jump and triple jump events.
Brandon Wolfenden won the shot put for Pilgrim, while Marcus Sukkar won the discus for the Hawks. Damon Buchanon won the javelin for the Hawks.
Jeremy Seidi finished second in the 100 dash for Hendricken, while Vega placed second in the 400 dash for Toll Gate. Tommy Flanders finished second in the 1,500 run for the Hawks and teammate Okah Wali placed second in the high jump and Michael Shah the triple jump.
Hendricken’s Arion Amoruso finished second in the shot put and teammate Shane Fagan took second in the discus. Matt Giuliano placed second in the hammer for Hendricken
Joel Felix placed third for Hendricken in the 100 dash, while Flanders took third in the 800 run and Will Olsen third in the 1,500. Sam Zabbo finished third in the 3,000 for Hendricken. Hendricken’s relay team of Guertin, Sebastian Lora, Davion Scott and Jabari Jackson finished third in the 400. Nathan Lewis placed third in the pole vault for the Hawks.
Nathanel Tarlue finished third in the triple jump for Hendricken and Wolfenden finished third in the discus. Derek Goll brought home third for the Hawks in the hammer. Julian Shaw took third for Hendricken in the long jump, followed by teammate Michael Shah in fourth.
Hendricken’s Tristan Jordan placed fourth in the 110 hurdles, while Schobel placed fourth in the 300 hurdles. Toll Gate’s Kevin Barker took fourth in the high jump.
Ryan Brady finished fifth in the 800 run for Toll Gate and Hendricken’s Ollie Ide finished fifth in the 1,500. Ben Williamson finished fifth in the 110 hurdles for the Hawks and teammate Ian Garcia placed fifth in the high jump and Nate Feret fifth in the pole vault.
Barker placed fifth in the triple jump for the Titans and Hendricken’s Kayson Kong took fifth in the shot put.
