Warwick Symphony Orchestra will present a series of events across the Ocean State in June featuring music from the Classical and Broadway Stage supported by RI State Council on the Arts and Bank Newport.
The primary performance on the musical stage is June 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Gamm Theatre, 1245 Jefferson Boulevard when the orchestra provides a preview of For Our Community as outreach to all at the Gaspee Days: Symphony in the Park event June 1 at 7 p.m. at Pawtuxet Park, rain date June 2 and a repeat at the Washington County Fairgrounds, June 8 at 5 p.m., rain date June 9 to benefit HASBRO Children’s Hospital – Arts & Enrichment Programming.
The program will include a variety of full symphony selections including
Overture to “Candide” – Leonard Bernstein
Music from “The Wreckers” – Ethyl Smyth
Selections from “The Sound of Music” – Richard Rodgers
No One is Alone from “Into the Woods” – Stephen Sondheim
Intermezzo Sinfonico from “Cavalleria Rusticana” – Pietro Mascagni
Music from “Frozen” – Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez
Excerpts from “Orpheus in the Underworld” – Jacques Offenbach

Established in 1966 by George Low as a continuing education opportunity through the Warwick Public Schools, the WSO is a non-profit regional orchestra with a diverse membership. Catherine Gagnon is WSO’s fifth Music Director, and under her guidance, the WSO presents about eight concerts annually. With accessible programs WSO presents music representing the changing interests of our community including pops selections, the music of film and Broadway, popular works, and traditional orchestral repertoire. WSO strives to balance concerts with pieces that are recognizable along with those that can develop our audience’s understanding of and appreciation for classical and contemporary music. WSO values its role in the fabric of the musical community of Rhode Island performing in both traditional and unconventional spaces. Membership includes amateur adults, high school and college students, retired professionals, music educators, and life-long learners are dedicated to the social, spiritual, and cognitive benefits of presenting and attending live performances.
