On Aug. 24, Mayor Allan Fung and Cranston’s Superintendent of Highways, John Corso, unveiled a new Elgin Pelican Sweeper to help keep the streets of Cranston clean. Currently the city has 3 street sweepers, with two of them running continuously on the streets of Cranston during April through August, mostly to clean up winter sand. The oldest sweeper is held in reserve. The City also replaced an old backhoe with a new John Deere Model 410L. They will also be receiving two new Peterbilt plow trucks to replace old ones. The purchase of these new trucks was part of the $5 million for Public Works/Highway projects bond issue that we will be receiving on Sept. 7. Here, Mayor Allan Fung sits in the new Elgin Pelican Sweeper, which was purchased as part of the $5 million for Public Works/Highway projects bond issue.
