On May 11, students and teachers at Bain Middle School took part in the National Junior Honor Society Group Community Service Project.
Organized by advisors Connie Manzi and Carol Storti, the event provided a chance to clean up the school grounds, spread mulch and plant flowers. The weather cooperated that day and participants were able to beautify the front of school.
The students split into teams, and laughter could be heard as they enjoyed working together. Within two hours, there was a fresh spring look to Bain.
“The Hugh B. Bain Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society is inducting about 50 eighth-graders this year,” Storti said.
Storti explained that students who are selected demonstrate outstanding performance in five areas – scholarship, character, leadership, service and citizenship. Students must be academically eligible and serve as role models in the community.
“Candidates are leaders, problem solvers, and have served in various volunteering capacities within their communities as well,” Storti said.
The 50 students will be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at a ceremony that will take place on June 4.
