By ALEX SPONSELLER The Cranston East field hockey team wrapped up its fall season earlier this week and has enjoyed hitting the field despite the uncertainty surrounding the year.

The Lady Bolts have battled through some tough losses but have seen improvement throughout each contest despite missing the playoffs. The Bolts finished the season with a 1-5 record.

“They have exceeded my expectations. They continually give 100 percent effort in practice and in games. They never once give up on themselves or their teammates. I am really proud of how they continue to work as a team and not individual players,” said East coach Michaela Salois.

Salois has been pleased with her upperclassmen and their leadership this season.

“Many of my players have stepped up this season. Each player has worked hard to improve their game and it really has shown in the last couple of games. Seniors Ava Esposito, Madison Gunderway and Angelina Ortiz really have been the core of this team this season. They are motivating, hard working, determined and leaders.”

The Lady Bolts will be saying bye to seven seniors as they get set for next fall. Salois is confident that the underclassmen will be prepared for new, larger roles when the time comes.

“We are graduating a group of seven seniors whom most have played for four years. They will be tough to replace because they each bring so much to the team. I believe the underclassmen will step up next year and continue to play determined, strong and together,” Salois said.
