Fine dining take-out

While much of our take-out has been limited to pizza, Chinese, Taco Tuesdays, and burgers and fries, the coronavirus has added Twin Oaks, Revolution, Rigatoni’s and Fire Works Catering to our list.

Before the pandemic, we enjoyed fine dining at Rhode Island’s plethora of fine restaurants at least once a week. Many of those restaurants are still open for take-out and delivery, and desperately need our support.

Check your favorite restaurant online to see if they are open – many of them are. Google their menu choices and make your selection. Set your dining room table with your best china, get out the candles, put on some soft music, turn the lights down low, and enjoy a nice dinner.

Fire Works Catering, just over the Cranston/Providence line on Allens Avenue, is a proffered caterer for many organizations. We ordered Easter dinner there, paid with a credit card and picked up our meal at the designated time. We drove to the front door and opened our trunk. They put in the hot food, waved, and we were on our way home, where we enjoyed a delicious lamb shank and rack of lamb dinners.

Rigatoni’s on West Shore Road in the Governor Francis section of Warwick serves great Italian meals at reasonable prices. Last week, Joyce enjoyed spaghetti and sausage, while I had my favorite, lasagna.

We ordered by phone, entered the empty restaurant, waited the signed 6-foot distance between the three patrons ahead of us, picked up our bagged order, paid the masked and gloved employee by credit card, and left by the arrowed aisle.

Revolution, one of our favorite restaurants in Pawtuxet Village, has a take-out window. Call ahead, place your order, pay by credit card, and your food will be ready at the designated time. You don’t even have to go inside. We recommend their short ribs, but everything is good, including a take-home drink from the bar.

You can still get your baked stuffed shrimp from Twin Oaks, your seafood dinners from Governor Francis, your Indian food from Chaska’s in Garden City, or your favorites from the dozens of great restaurants and chefs.

You need to treat yourself at least once a week, and our local restaurants, many family owned, need your support.
