The proposal of 40 Wickes Way, LLC for the former site of the John Wickes School was expected to gain master plan approval last night from the Warwick Planning Board. The development of 39 single-family houses conforms to zoning and does not require any variances. According to the narrative filed with the Planning Department, the development would be built in a single phase. As can been seen in the lower left corner of the plan, the developer has preserved an open lane, which has a path, to Vera Street in an effort to link the neighborhoods. Assuming master plan approval, the next step for the developer is to gain preliminary plan approval and then final plan approval. Wickes School that was closed during the consolidation of elementary schools has sat vacant for a number of years. The Picozzi administration has made the sale of vacant school properties a priority. The Wickes School and site sold of $2.1 million. The administration is actively pursuing proposals for the sale of the former school administration building on Warwick Avenue and the former Aldrich Junior High School on Post Road.
