The good times continued to roll for the Cranston Western-CLCF Gals softball program as another club took home a state title with the 10’s win last week to punch their ticket to regionals.

CWLL-CLCF would beat Tiverton in consecutive games to roll to the title. The 10’s took the first game in a 11-0 shutout.

Hannah Shone and Eva Taveras each knocked in a pair of runs at the plate while Olivia Cole also chipped in a run. Mia Vieira and Taveras each crossed home twice in the win as well. Ava Palumbo was stellar in the circle, pitching all five innings and allowing just one hit while striking out 10 batters.

The 10’s stayed hot the following game as they rolled to the 15-5 decision.

Vieira led the way at the plate with three hits and three RBI while Laila Murphy and Taveras knocked in multiple runs as well. Emma Gomez, Hailey Shone and Ariana Iorfida also knocked in runs.

Serafina Sweeney got the win in the circle and struck out seven batters. Taveras picked up three more strikeouts in relief.

“The girls’ bats came alive. These girls are peaking at the right time. It is always great to have a complete team win. There is not a more deserving team. They practiced for three straight weeks in 90-degree plus heat. This was the culmination of their hard work and dedication,” said 10’s manager Patrick Sweeney.

Sweeney, who is also the president of CLCF softball, is proud of his team and the depth of talent across the city’s youth softball landscape.

“CLCF Gals has both an incredible rec program and tremendous travel feeder system for girls softball. We have 6-U tee ball, 8-U coach pitch, and 10-U through 18-U travel. The coaches and staff are highly dedicated and credentialed individuals who put the time in to make sure our Gals reach their full potential. We’ve had a plethora of girls be recruited to play college softball across the country. With the advent of social media, more of our Gals are getting the attention they so rightly deserve, which is big for us in the Northeast competing with teams in the South,” said Sweeney.

Members of the 10’s included: Olivia Cole, Emma Gomez, Ariana Iorfida, Laila Murphy, Jacklyn Newbury, Ava Palumbo, Hailey Shone, Hannah Shone, Serafina Sweeney, Eva Taveras, Mia Vieira, Chloe Whittenberger and Addison Graziano. Coaches were manager Patrick Sweeney and assistant Derek Vieira, Joe Murphy and Mike Palumbo.

The Gals 12’s got a win to open their regional tournament in Bristol, Conn. last week as well. CLCF-CWLL would beat Burkett, 10-5.

Angie Fields led the way at the plate with three RBI while Luciana Cipolla and Lawson Bastia also knocked in multiple runs. Lylah Riley and Bree Bedard also recorded RBI.

Cipolla struck out four batters in four innings of work in the circle.
