To the Editor:
Foster Parrots, Ltd. & The New England Exotic Wildlife Sanctuary, has been a part of Rhode Island’s animal welfare community for 11 years. I am proud that our Rhode Island General Assembly takes seriously the protection of our most vulnerable citizens, whether on two legged, four legged, or winged.
The leadership in our General Assembly has played a role in establishing strong animal welfare protections. I am especially grateful to Speaker Nicholas Mattiello, who serves in the senior-most position in our House of Representatives.
Already this year, he has helped our General Assembly pass seven pro-animal bills that have been signed into law. These new laws protect dogs and cats kept as pets, retired animals used in research, animals raised on farms for food, as well as service animals.
It is easy to forget how closely tied the treatment of animals is to the treatment of people. For example, stopping animal abuse early can help curb violent tendencies before they escalate to violence against people.
Speaker Mattiello has played an important role in animal welfare in Rhode Island. We are grateful for his efforts and hope that all of his constituents who care about animals will recognize his invaluable contributions.

His support for animals only counts for the bones he tosses to the members of the GA who show him undying fealty.
