Mayor Scott Avedisian will join Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung at O’Rourke’s Bar and Grill, 23 Peck Lane, Warwick, this evening for a night of guest bartending to benefit the inception of the Pawtuxet Village Foundation. The duo will be behind the bar from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This inaugural event is set to benefit the newly founded foundation, whose main purpose is to enhance and enrich the beloved open spaces and river, which straddle the two cities, as well as promote the colorful and patriotic past of Pawtuxet Village. With roots dating back to 1638, Pawtuxet has been a hamlet around the falls and cove of the upper Narragansett for more than four centuries.
With the hopes of raising $177,200 annually, the Pawtuxet Village Foundation will focus their efforts to enhance the areas around the Aspray Boathouse, including the addition of a new playground, adding illumination landscaping and enhancing sightlines from the park to the water’s edge. These enhancements will ensure that the village, and its picturesque surroundings, remains a thriving focal point of both cities for future generations.
Attendees at Thursday’s event are asked to donate $17.72, as a nod to the 1772 Gaspee Affair.
“I’m thrilled to be guest bartending alongside Mayor Fung in the hopes of raising significant monies to for the newly founded Pawtuxet Village Foundation,” said Mayor Avedisian. “It is always a great when two cities can come together and work towards a cause that’s mutually beneficial. Pawtuxet Village is a beloved piece of Rhode Island’s history, and with the creation of this new foundation we are ensuring it will be enjoyed for generations to come.”
“I’m excited to get behind the bar to support a great cause that will benefit both Cranston and Warwick,” commented Mayor Fung. “Pawtuxet Village is a treasure shared by both communities and I’m honored to help the Pawtuxet Village Foundation reach its goal.”
