The Cranston-based Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) last week hosted its Chip for Charity 9 Hole Golf Tournament and Community Awards Dinner at Harbor Lights in Warwick, with Cranston Mayor Allan Fung as the evening’s honoree.
Lee Beliveau, CCAP’s vice president of development and corporate affairs, said this was the group’s second year of honoring a community member at the dinner for providing “tremendous help to the organization.” Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian – who was on hand to recognize Fung – was honored in 2015.
Beliveau praised Fung for his efforts on CCAP’s behalf, both at a City Council member as a mayor. He pointed to Fung’s assistance with the health center at 1090 Cranston St., the Learn to Earn program, and his role as a “champion” of the Head Start program.
“He’s done an awful lot for CCAP,” Belliveau said, also thanking other elected officials in Cranston for their work on the organization’s behalf.
Belliveau said last week’s event raised roughly $50,000, and the dinner drew more than 170 people.
