A sight for sore eyes

After months of being partially closed, the Park Avenue Bridge over the Pocasset River, seen above, fully reopened to traffic last week. A detour for eastbound traffic, as seen at left, had been in place for more than a year as the bridge was rehabilitated as part of the state’s RhodeWorks program. Work on the bridge – which was built in 1960 and carries roughly 18,000 vehicles per day, according to the Rhode Island Department of Transportation – was finished well before the anticipated completion date of summer 2021.
