Political labels aside, more than 600 people from government, business and the community turned out Wednesday for the $200 per ticket fundraiser for House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi held at the tent at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick. A line more than 60 deep extended outside the tent to be greeted by Shekarchi. The wait wasn’t all that long, made all the pleasant by the Crowne staff that served hors d’oeuvres. In flowing colorful robes, Rep. Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung and her husband, former Cranston Mayor Allan Fung, meet Warwick Ward 4 Councilman James McElroy while waiting in line. Lynn Singleton, left, president of the Providence Performing Arts Center, and Kelly Coates, president and CEO of the Carpionato Group, pose with Shekarchi and a full tent. (Warwick Beacon photos)
