The Cranston Western 11-year-old all-star team kept up the solid summer for the league by capturing the District 1 championship with a 5-3 victory over Johnston Saturday.
Western opened the tournament with a 10-0 win over North Providence West on July 3, and then defeated Johnston 11-1 on Monday, July 7 to put itself into the championship game.
Johnston was the challenger, as it emerged out of the loser’s bracket, but Western got the job done, finishing off the tournament unscathed.
Western will now compete in the state tournament, which is being held at Johnston Memorial Park beginning on Saturday.
